This page explains, in plain English, what you're agreeing to when you use a barbershop's Taper iPad or queue link. You can come back here any time. Each consent below is separate — you can say yes to one and no to another.
Quick summary. The barbershop you're visiting is in charge of your information. Taper is the software they use. You can withdraw any consent at any time by asking the shop, replying STOP to an SMS, or emailing
privacy@taper.style.
1. Photo & AI haircut preview
What you're consenting to. The shop will take or upload a front-facing photo of your face and hair, send it to OpenAI's image model through Taper, and show you a preview of how the chosen haircut might look on you.
What happens to the photo:
- It's sent to OpenAI to generate the preview, then returned to Taper.
- OpenAI does not use it to train general AI models (under their API data-usage policy).
- The shop may save the photo and the preview to your customer record so the barber knows what you wanted.
- Taper deletes unsaved previews automatically after 90 days.
- The preview is a visualisation — not a guarantee of the final cut.
How to withdraw. Ask the shop to delete it, or email privacy@taper.style.
2. Contact details — name, mobile, email
What you're consenting to. The shop adds your name, mobile, and email (only the ones you give them) to its client list inside Taper, so they can find you on a return visit and confirm your booking.
This is for service communication only — appointment confirmations, reminders, and answers to questions you've asked. It is not marketing.
How to withdraw. Ask the shop to delete your record. They are required to do so within a reasonable time.
3. SMS & email marketing (optional)
What you're consenting to. If — and only if — you tick the marketing box, the shop may send you SMS or emails about specials, promotions, new services, or rebooking offers. This is express consent under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
Each message will identify the shop and include an easy way to opt out (reply STOP for SMS, an unsubscribe link for email).
How to withdraw. Reply STOP, click unsubscribe, or ask the shop to remove you. They must stop within 5 business days.
4. AI preview age limit
If you are under 16, please don't use the AI preview without a parent or guardian present and consenting on your behalf. The shop is responsible for checking this.
Your rights
You can ask the shop, at any time, to:
- Show you the information they hold about you;
- Correct anything that's wrong;
- Delete your photo, preview, contact details, or all of it;
- Stop sending you marketing.
If they don't respond, email privacy@taper.style. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
What this is not
- It is not a guarantee that the haircut you receive will match the AI preview.
- It is not a contract between you and Taper. Your contract for the haircut is with the barbershop.
- It is not consent for the shop or Taper to share your photo with third parties for advertising — we don't do that and never will.
